| Holidays in France
In France, the public holidays are legally defined by the Labor Code, Article L3133-1 [1].
Labor Day in France is the only mandatory holiday off (Article L3133-4 [2] of the Labor Code) and paid (Article L3133-5 [3] of the Labor Code). The other holidays are not necessarily worked, unless the applicable collective agreements in enterprises.
The eight public holidays with fixed dates can be a Saturday or Sunday, in this case the collective agreements may provide for a holiday recoverable, but not necessarily the case.
Fixed holidays (January 1st, May 1st, May 8, etc..) Are distributed in the same way from the days of the week every 28 years (7 days a week x practically leap years [4] every 4 years). During this cycle of 28 years, each fixed feast falls exactly four times on each of the seven days of the week (during a cycle of 28 years and 1st January falls on a Monday four times, four times on a Tuesday, etc. .) However, for a given year, more or less fixed fall festivities the week or on weekends, so there is "good" and "bad" years. The best came in 2000 with only two holidays falling on a weekend (January 1 and November 11 fall on a Saturday), this configuration is found in 202 |
